#125 I Dreamed I Saw Reggie Seward (400 words)

Inspired by: I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine

Ein returned home from wandering Beacon. Ever since the mysterious woman Gertrude told him he was in danger, he believed that she was right.

Ein sat down beside Bay Cat on the couch.

“Hey, Bay, how was your day?”

Bay Cat stretched out and rolled over, “I slept.”

“Classic.”

“Are you still being followed?”

“I’m not sure I haven’t noticed, but I’m sure they may be more secretive now.”

“What did you do with your day?”

“I went by Reggie’s. Ever since I thought I saw him during the heist, I can’t get it out of my head that he may be back.”

Bay Cat moved across the room and sat on Ein’s lap. “So, is he back?”

“I sat outside his house, afraid to knock. Like we funded our heist on Jon with the money we stole from Reggie.”

“It’s all stolen money anyway, and like you said, it’s pennies to these guys. Why do they care so much?”

“It’s something about these men that once they get money, they become corrupted. All they want is more and more money. How much is enough? They have thousands of lifetimes of wealth, and people are starving to death at the feet of their skyscrapers. It’s completely illogical.

“While I was there, I did lie down on their front porch, and I think I fell asleep for a little bit.”

“You slept? You must have really been exhausted. I feel like I’m doing all the sleeping for us.”

“Being a millionaire philanthropist and a landlord isn’t as easy as I make it look.”

Bay Cat did a big eye roll.

“Anyway, while I was sleeping, I had a dream that Reggie was back. Not only did he forgive me for robbing him, but he helped me make even more money from Jon Fall and distribute it to people of the city.

“Not pennies on the dollar but dimes and quarters. Really took a chunk out of his wealth funding city initiatives; green energy, clean air, clean water, social services. All the projects Ian Quinn wants to advance. It was a good dream.”

Bay Cat started to speak, “All dreams…” then they yawned big time, “excuse me, all dreams are good dreams because it means you’re asleep. Speaking of, I’m going to dream now.”

True to their word within seconds of closing their eyes, Bay Cat breathed heavily and entered REM sleep.
