#79 Subterranean Homemade Brew (200 words)

Inspired by: Subterranean Homesick Blues

Nathan knocked on the door. Mid-knock, he had second thoughts. He turned to walk to the street. The door creaked open. He looked inside the house, but the light didn’t penetrate the entrance.

“Why are all these creepy places so dark?” He asked himself.

He entered the pitch-black home, felling for anything to guide him.

He saw some light coming from the basement and the shadow of a woman.

The woman stirred a large pot, and there were all sorts of chemicals, herbs, and exotic animal parts around her.

“You’re the boy, I was told about?” The woman asked as she worked.

“Y-y-yes.”

“And you’re in love?”

“Yes.”

“You know the prophecy? One of you will die. I cannot help with that.”

“She is the best person I know, and I want to spend every second with her. I just want her to know how I feel.”

The woman added a goldenrod flower into her concoction. The light in the room flashed yellow for a fraction of a second.

She poured the solution into a vial and gave it to the quivering boy.

“Share this with her, and she will be yours.”

Nathan grabbed the vial and fled the building.
