#9 Man in the Road (200 words)

Inspired by: Man in the Street

Day’s later back in Beacon Ein drove Reginald through the city. He saw a gathering on the side of the road. Reggie had his head in some files.

Traffic slowed to a crawl as everyone tried to see what the commotion was about. Ein still couldn’t see through the people gathered around.

“Why the hell have we stopped?” Reginald asked after throwing his papers to the floor.

“I’m not sure, something on the sidewalk.

The car inched forward, and Ein could see through a gap in the people.

“There’s a body on the sidewalk.”

“We’re holding up traffic for bodies on sidewalks now? Don’t these people have anything better to do?

“It’s not every day you see a dead guy, I guess. What do you think happened to him?”

“Who cares, probably overdosed on something, or maybe he knew something he shouldn’t have.”

“You think he was assassinated?”

“It happens.”

Having had their fill, the cars in front of Ein begin to speed up. Ein followed suit.

“You realize how close we are to the capital, right?”

“People who know things come here to blow off steam.”

“Keep your wits about you. No one is as they seem.”
